golden google opp 4 MIS coming to SJSU this TH

As you know, Google is one of the "gold standard" techs to work for worldwide, but especially here in SV and next Thursday, Oct 4, they'll be coming to SJSU, seeking MIS students specifically! That's right. A few years back they started recruiting our MIS students and hired several that really impressed them so they've been coming back ever since. (As far as I know, there are still no other majors that Google comes to this campus to recruit.)

We've developed a great relationship with them and we want to keep "feeding" them the kind of top-notch students they've come to expect, so if that sounds like you, please make an effort to be there for their info session, coordinated by the MIS student club, MISA, in the Almaden Room (Student Union) from 5:00-6PM. They are primarily recruiting for their IT Residency Program (ITRP) which is an awesome chance to work front line support for Google and train on all kinds of technology at the same time, including internal rotation to numerous different units in the company. Honestly, I've spent some time at the "GooglePlex" (not just for the lunches, though they alone are worth it) and I would apply myself if I weren't (slightly) past the appropriate age range. (Rats!)

Their rep to SJSU, Harrison Shanklin, tells me that they are looking for both December 2012 and May 2013 grads for start dates in March and August 2013, respectively. Of course, this is a first class outfit full of really smart & sharp people, so they're looking to hire top candidates but at the same time, they're flexible and creative--they appreciate the ability to think that way and the passion for technology and learning rather than just focusing on GPA, etc. So if you see yourself in that ballpark, I would highly recommend you at least show up and see what they're like and what they have to say. It could be a real game-changer for your future career and life.

Harrison noted that while they are primarily recruiting for ITRP, they are always open for other positions as well and you can find a list of their available technical positions in North America here and you can find more information on our program overall on their student jobs site with the evocative title "Do cool things that matter." That seems apt because theese guys are inventing the future we're all living and being part of that has got to be a great feeling. Check it out. I'll see you there.

  1. BTW, I know there is some overlap with this event and the IBM Hackaton, but not too bad. I plan to leave IBM early enough to be there for Google. Hopefully 101 will not be too, too nasty that afternoon. 280 may be a good alternative. I do have a new Genesis Coupe that can get me there quickly if no one's in my way!

    1. Oh, and I just heard from Nam (MISA prez) that Google is buying 4th Street Pizza for the event! Try to get there before I snarf most of it.

  2. Unfortunately this conflicts with an event for the Honors class. Hopefully they host one next semester too!
