I liked it too when he talked about resisting the new trend at the time, to start charging customers for tech support calls. He felt that if their designers were doing their job right, then people shouldn't need tech support - if they did, it was Intuit's fault and the customer shouldn't have to pay for that. Though they wound up charging in the end, I admired that philosophy.
Ever since then, I've held the company in high regard and so I was excited to hear that one of their senior VP's, Nora Denzel, would be coming to campus next Wednesday (3/16) to give a talk (6pm in Morris Daily) about how not to screw up your career. Yes, it's billed as being humorous and entertaining but also packed with really good advice for students transitioning into working professionals. I'm sure there will be some valuable ideas that you'll remember years later just like I do from hearing Tom Proulx. And the bonus is that she's bringing along recruiters so you might even get a job if you show up! That's like the door prize of the century.
